I can't believe that a year has come and gone. She is still so little, so much so that people think that she is only 6-9 months. At her one year check up her stats were:
Weight: 16.7 lbs >5th percentile
Height: 27 inches 40th percentile
Head: 40th percentile
We have to keep giving her formula on top of whole milk, because she still needs the extra fat. They are slightly concerned as a baby's weight really drops off once they start to walk. The nice thing is, we don't have to give her baby food anymore, since she gets mad if we eat table food and give her the mushed stuff. Since I doubt our entire family will convert to eating the mushed stuff, the doctor said we can cease and desist:) She is developing quite the little attitude when she doesn't get her way. To which I am sure my dad is rubbing his hands together, with a red light casting shadows on his face, evil smile, and laughing maniacally at the fact that my daughter is turning out to be just like him, I mean me. It is so hard not to crack up sometimes at who she acts, Asher too. The things they do provide for hours of entertainment.
On to the party. I started planning and making things for it back in January. It really helped that I created a list this time that I always had in my purse so that I could cross things off.
Abbie's invite had a little poem I wrote to let people know it was time to come over and celebrate.
She’s grown so much the last twelve months
The time is drawing near.
Abbie’s turning ONE you see,
Her special day is here.
There’s yummy cake, and bright balloons,
With lots of things to do
Please come help us celebrate
Let the merriment ensue

I made her a little tutu out of Hot Pink, Lime Green, and Chocolate Brown tulle. It had to be retired after the party. She turned in circles on her butt so many times that it squashed into an unwearable pulp. She also chose her birthday party to stand without holding onto anything. She is that much closer to walking. (Boo/ Yea I am not sure which emotion to feel:)
I made her little onesie with a heart I drew onto some brown fabric I love that has a bunch of little doodles that matched the tutu. The color pallet stemmed from this fabric. I love it and can't find anymore right now. I also made her a cute picture garland that I will put on the craft blog of a picture for each month for the last year. It was crazy to see how much she has changed.
Abbie got so many fun presents, we have no more space for toys. I feel as though we are a toy store. We have almost every conceivable toy that Fisher Price makes, but they last so they will get used:) At this party she got a mail box, blender, vacuum, three onesies, fake CD player, fairy dress up, a rotating block center, baby doll with binky, Snow White baby doll, a Tinkerbell toy holder that we really needed after this week, three outfits that we had to return because they were too big so she got Princess and the Frog on DVD, a swimsuit, and a folding chair for camping that is like a mini couch so both the kids can sit on it. And Asher wanted all of the toys especially the vacuum. He would have slept with it if we would have let him. We also gave Abbie a rocking chair that I put together and painted. It just needs a fine grit sanding, then I will add my little decorations to it and seal it up. I wanted to make Abbie the chair because my mom did that for me when I was little, and my mom still has it. Asher and Abbie play in it now at her house, and I want to have something like that to pass on as well at mine.
Here is the brown eyed cake topper I painted for Abbie. It's hard to tell, but I did three tones of paint on the hair to give the appearance of curls. I can't wait for Abbie's hair to get longer, as I found a way to make it match for next years cake.
The cake was all gone by the end of the party. It was sugary, it was pretty, and it wasn't too bad for my first time doing a large cake with marshmallow fondant, and the first time making sugar paste flowers.
The cake was so bright and fun inside. Next time I will use the same cake pan on all layers so that the finished cake isn't so lumpy, but it still tasted yummy. Each layer was mixed with real fruit: Raspberry, Orange, Lemon, Lime, Blueberry, and Blackberry. In between each layer and all around the cake was homemade white chocolate frosting. Then the whole thing was covered in MMF, the base wrapped in ribbon, and the cake covered in sugar paste flowers with royal icing centers. This was another instance I wished I had a good white cake recipe. I got lucky that the white cake mix held up under the weight of everything, but it was super moist and the colors were so vibrant.
Abbie loved the cake and was so mad when Matt took her away to take a bath. She dove into the cake much better than Asher ever did. She just wanted the cake this time, no singing. Plus, as we walked the cake over while singing, the candle kept burning out. Abbie had people wall to wall who love her so much, and Asher too. Even though it was squishy and a few mishaps occurred along the way, it was a blast and I can't wait for the next one.
