Matt trained for a few months for the Top Of Utah Half Marathon. The day was looming ever closer and on the morning of August 29th we drove to Logan to watch Matt, Aunt Andrea, and soon to be Uncle Kenny, run the race. Aunt Amy was supposed to run but wound up with yucky kidney stones, and Uncle Steve was a cute hubby who decided to wait and run together next year. Matt drove up Friday night to be ready for the race at 7 o'clock the next morning. He said that it was a long pretty bus ride to do the 13.1 miles to the Starting Line.
I stayed up until 3 in the morning to make this shirt that said, "MY DAD CAN RACE TO THE MOON" with a little rocket ship. It made Matt really happy to see this little one of a kind surprise, and Asher loved to run around in it.
Abbie already had a onesie that said, "MY DADDY ROCKS" and she was pretty good while we waited at the finish line. Matt wanted me to make a sign that said "A RUNNER IS FUNNER," but I couldn't bring myself to do it because funner isn't a word and it drives me nuts when it is used:) I'm a nerd.
Below you can see the video of Matt running toward the finish line. He did so well! Out of 2,200ish runners; he placed 24th in his age division, and 173 overall. We were so excited and cheered a bunch. Asher loved to clap and say "running, daddy" over and over. I am so proud of the dedication that Matt has toward exercise. I wish that I had the motivation and fortitude. I guess I just take after my dad when he says that no one should run that far unless a gun is involved.
I thought it was cute that Andrea and Kenny ran the race together. It was cute to see, and it will make for some fun memories for them to share with their future children. Asher clapped for them and gave big waves.
Even though Matt had rubbery legs and bleeding feet he wants to do the St. George Marathon next year. As long as I don't have to do it with him I am good with that.
